Go From Storage Room to Guestroom in 3 Steps

A minimalist bedroom features a gray tufted headboard and a neatly made bed with two pillows. A wooden nightstand, perfect for organizing products, holds a small framed picture, a decorative object, and a hanging glass pendant light above it against the white wall.

Expecting guests at home anytime soon? If they’re spending the night and you don’t have an extra room but have a storage room, then you might want to consider converting it into a lovely guestroom.

Rather than have guests sleep on the couch or in the family den, a storage room can be cleaned out and organized.

Follow these simple steps to transform your storage room into a comfortable space for your guests’ enjoyable stay and your own peace of mind.

Sort and Clear Your Storage Room

If the room is currently used as your storage space for items you’ve been keeping for a long time (and haven’t used in a while), then it’s time to start sorting and clearing out the clutter.

Go over the contents of the room and decide which items to keep, donate, sell, or relocate to a new place. Have boxes ready so you can easily rearrange things.

Once all the sorting is done and clutter is disposed of or relocated to its rightful place, open your windows to air out the room.

Get Down and Dirty

Once you’ve managed to clear the room of clutter, you’ll see all the dusting, wiping, and vacuuming that needs to be done. If you feel a coat of paint is required, now is the time to address it.

Once you’ve cleared the room and painted it, it’s time to get down to business and dust, wipe down, and vacuum the entire room.

You want to prepare the room for sleeping in, so cleanliness is your priority. Scrub down the room, wipe away any grimy surfaces, and give the room a thorough cleaning with your vacuum. All this cleaning will do wonders and transform the room’s look!

Clutter Out, Bed In

Once the room has been cleared out and cleaned, consider the type of sleeping arrangement you want to create for your guests.

Do you have an extra futon that can be moved into the room? Are you considering an air mattress that you can easily set up?

If you decide to convert the room into a permanent guest room, you will need to invest in a nice, comfortable mattress, headboard, and other room furniture to achieve the desired look and atmosphere.

Get Comfy and Cozy

After deciding on the sleeping arrangements and doing the necessary shopping for the room, consider how you can make the room extra cozy for your guests.

Clean sets of sheets, fluffy, comfy pillows, curtains, and warm lighting are just a few of the things that can make a room feel cozier.

Ensure that the room has sufficient closet or drawer space for those staying for a couple of days, and consider placing books and magazines nearby for your guests to read.

Indeed, preparing for guests is an excellent way to de-clutter and clean up that storage room you’ve been meaning to work on.

With a focused mind plus an eye for detail, your house guests will appreciate the extra effort and comfort you’ve created for them in your home!
