Paper Organizing Ideas

Paper Organizing Ideas are great as long as you put them in place! And the secret to implementing anything is to break it down into doable steps.

Do you know this scenario? You have to pay bills, send something through the mail, not email, snail mail. But, you are comfortably seated in your chair, watching TV and you take the most “reasonable” decision for the moment: you decide to do it LATER!

 Watch the Video

Ah, procrastination. Well, we’ve all been there, so don’t fret. Watch the video and see the solution I came up to those bills I still want to pay by check without having to sacrifice my favorite show time.

Divide and Conquer

For this project, I used a small paper box from Ikea. It fits a box of envelopes inside it which not only holds the envelopes but also works as a space divider.

I used simple art paper from the kids to create 4 dividers to keep:

  • Stamps
  • Envelopes
  • Address Labels
  • Mailing Forms
  • Business Thank You Cards

You can use card paper or scrapbooking paper to make it yours. You can also print each label in a label maker if you prefer a neat looking front.

I also tuck a pen in so when I bring this box to another room I have everything I need.

Keeping all these items together has been a great solution for me. I love to finish up the day doing some things at night while watching TV and this is one of them.

OK. Now it’s your turn! What are your favorite paper organizing ideas?

Another great post Helena. Keep it simple…my favorite paper management technique however is avoiding generating as much paper as possible! Even something as simple as cutting down on how much junk mail I get has made a huge difference to the time I spending managing the mail!

    1. Hi Nan!
I agree with you on cutting junk mail. I actually toss everything I don’t want in the recycling bin before I step into the house with the mail. I have a video on this one, I’ll post it. I have even installed shredders in clients’ garages, near their recycling bins so they could do it too.
Happy you keep your junk mail tamed!

  3. I’m always looking for stamps. I always say I will put them in one place and then I still look for them. I have several boxes like you have and and I’m going to get some dividers and set up my mailing box. AND, oh my, “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly” Love that post it in your office.

    1. Thank you for coming by Sabrina! I carry a set of Forever stamps in my wallet and have that box you saw on the video. Because I’m the one in charge of the mail here at home, it works for us. I have worked with clients that needed other spots in the house for their husbands, for example, so I add a small container for office supplies on their kitchen counters.
Now, that quote on a magnet was given to me by a good friend when I had to move from MD to CA when my business was being so successful and I’d have to close it and start all over again. It is a great way to remind us that there’s always another day! And it did! 🙂
